This is that time of the year when we in Croatian IT community prepare for yet another great edition of Microsoft Windays in Rovinj. As always, I will give you a brief description of my sessions this year. Some info can be found on my official presenter page (Croatian language).
System Center App Controller (24.04.2012., 10:35 – 11:20, room 4)
This will be level 200 introduction to the new portal for SCVMM 2012 and Azure platform. App Controller is aimed to combine public and private cloud view into one application and I will explain and demonstrate how it is accomplished. Bare in mind that this is the only session on App Controller on this conference.
Hyper-V 3.0 Failover Cluster (25.04.2012., 11:40 – 12:25, room 4)
I will explain and demonstrate several new and improved technologies that are available through Hyper-V 3.0 and new Windows Server 8. This is level 300 session. Among other things, you will see how to create Hyper-V cluster with iSCSI, how to use Hyper-V replica feature and how to do Live migration of virtual machine without using iSCSI or SAN! be sure to visit this session if your virtual machines run business critical applications and business continuity is one of your primary concerns.
Build your private cloud in 3 hours with System Center 2012 (26.04.2012., 09:30 – 12:30, room “Centar znanja”)
This is a workshop that will be delivered by my college Tomica Kaniški and I. Here you will have hands on experience of Microsoft latest System Center products. There is limited number of seats available so hurry up to reserve yours.
Everybody enjoys good demo, so as always, I tried to create as good as possible demo environment to demonstrate full potential of Hyper-V and related management products. This demo environment is used for my sessions and not for the workshop. Picture speaks thousand words!
Blue portion of the network is used to demonstrate App Controller functionality. I will be using two physical machines and two virtualized machines. ILI-VIRT-02 is physical machine on which I have virtualized domain controller, App Controller and SCVMM 2012 RC2 applications. Hyper-V-1 is physical Hyper-V host. Of course, this setup is for demo purposes only and it is not recommended for production environment. The only reason why App Ctrl and SCVMM are not on the same machine is because they use same port for a accessing web based services (HTTPS 443). This can of course be modified on any service but I choose not to since I have installed Self-service portal on SCVMM machine which will also be demonstrated.
Second demo setup is bit more complicated and it is represented in pale red color. There are two physical machines and four virtual machines that will be used. Win8-1 and Win8-2 are part of a Hyper-V Cluster and are connected to iSCSI storage that is provisioned on Win8-3 machine. HA-VM virtual machine will be used to demonstrate Hyper-V failover from Win8-1 to Win8-2. HA-VM VHDX is stored on iSCSI provisioned disk on Win8-3 machine. ReplicaTest is a VM that will be used to demonstrate new Hyper-V feature called Hyper-V Replica. Its VHDX is stored on Win8-1 machine and it will be replicated on schedule to Win8-2 machine. Also I will demonstrate how to do manual controlled failover of this VM. ShareTest is VM that has its WHDX file stored on a share on Win8-3 machine. VM itself is located on Win8-1 machine. I will demonstrate how to failover this VM to Win8-2 without service interruption. Be aware that ShareTest VMs VHDX is NOT on storage device (iSCSI or SAN)!
Router VM is used to provide access to Internet resources if needed.
