New project: SharePoint 2010 Foundation server

by Marin Franković on 13 June, 2010

SharePoint 2010 I have decided to spend some time on installing and configuring SharePoint 2010 Foundation server in my company. Idea is to use it a central information store for phone numbers, mail addresses, aliases that we all use and short inter-departmental announcements and informational messages.

Test deployment will be done on our test server that has Hyper-V role installed and later on it will be migrated to production server. I will be using SQL Express database since there will be small amount of data in it. Do not expect this to be done in week or so, since I have other things to do too. :)

I will be customizing portal pages and sites and I will try to report on any curiosities and hick-ups that I come upon. And of course, you will read about solutions and workarounds that I implement.

Now, on to installing underlying OS (Windows Server 2008 R2 x64) and SharePoint prerequisites and binaries.

I also have a plan to install it, to have some kind of file share for our internal documents. We would like to have like a “cloud” solution :-) .

This is intended to be info only portal. :) File servers are still no. 1 file management and storage solution for us.

OK, but sometimes I need to access my data even when I don’t have a VPN connection. That’s why I need a webpage.
