Migrate Windows XP to Windows 7 with MDT 2010

by Marin Franković on 17 September, 2009

Here are two great videos from Microsoft that show how to easily migrate Windows XP computer to Windows 7 operating system. If you click on an image you will be taken to Microsoft web page.

Windows XP to Windows 7 1 Learn how to build media that will automatically migrate computers from Windows XP to Windows 7 with user data, custom applications and drivers. This demonstration will walk you through the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) Deployment Workbench and how it works.

Windows XP to Windows 7 2 Explore the user experience for migrating the Windows XP computer to Windows 7 and how brief – or "lite touch" – interaction is required up front to automate the entire process of data migration, OS installation, driver and application customization, and domain join.

Alternatively, you can download WMV (Part 1, Part 2) videos to your computer.

Don’t you have to install USMT first to be able to make this work?
Can you point me configuration of USMT video or instructions
Thank you

I’m already using MDT 2010 to deploy images to new pc’s. I just need to know how to configure mdt to capture the data from an XP machine and push the win 7 image, restore data. The videos show that but there is something missing. Help!

Hi Kurt,

it is very hard for me to know what is “missing”. 🙂 Here (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=163310) you can find complete MDT print ready documentation. Hope it helps!
