Few hours ago I got invited to participate in Office 2010 Technical Preview program. If you have Windows Live ID you can apply on Microsoft Connect site. I must say that I was excited to try this new version of Office, but my initial thrill was killed when I realized that every time I start any of the applications something had to be downloaded from the Internet (Microsoft Site). Basically this Technical Preview is App-V (Softgrid) application deployed over Internet to numerous testers. I do have 5 Mbit Internet connection, but loading and starting applications is very, very slow. I must admit that I did not spent to much time testing it since currently I do not have much time. Although this is Technical Preview my opinion is that uninstall procedure could be more intuitive. There is no info screen on uninstall progress and there is no notification that uninstall is finished. Lots of stuff has to be cleaned from registry and file system by using separate application. I tested it on Windows 7 RC x64 build 7100. I will give it second chance when it becomes standalone suite of applications, until then, Office 2007 is my friend. 🙂
