RC for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

by Marin Franković on 5 May, 2009

Couple of days ago, RC (Release Candidate) versions of Microsoft popular operating systems were released for Technet and MSDN users. Of course, I downloaded my copy right away from Techent and installed it on my laptop. Everything worked fine, as expected, but I was surprised that MS Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 can not be installed on Windows 7 RC. Reason for that is Microsoft’s new Virtual PC 7 application which is used for “XP Mode” on Windows 7 machines. I also installed R2 version of Server 2008 on one of the test computers and so far didn’t have any time to check it more deeply.

Both versions are now publicly available from Microsoft website. Windows 7 RC can be downloaded from here, and Windows Server 2008 R2 RC VHD or installation files can be downloaded here.

You should use these operating systems for testing only. 🙂
