Since I installed Windows 7 on my laptop I was completely satisfied with most of the new features and with speed of the new OS, although in beta phase.
One thing was killing me. Windows Live Messenger when closed was appearing as a taskbar button and was not minimized to system tray like in Vista or Windows XP. Now I have located a workaround for that problem:
- Close Windows Live Messenger completely
- Locate WLM in start menu
- Right click select Properties and select Compatibility tab
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for
- Select Vista
- Click OK
- Start WLM and now it should appear in system tray
