Windows Server 2008 RMS (Part 5)

by Marin Franković on 17 November, 2008

Now that we have infrastructure all set up we need to check its funcionality. RMS client is by default installed in all Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. For earlier versions RMS client can be downloaded from MS site here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=68637.

For this, we will need our client virtual machine (RMS server must be started).

????????? Open ADUC on RMS server and create 3 user accounts (User1,User2 and User3).

????????? Create a shared folder on RMS server (\\RMS\testRMS)

????????? Log on to the client machine as User1 and add http://rms.demo.local to the Local Intranet security zone of the Internet explorer and then log off

????????? Log on to the client machine as User2 and add http://rms.demo.local to the Local Intranet security zone of the Internet explorer and then log off

????????? Log on to the client machine as User3 and add http://rms.demo.local to the Local Intranet security zone of the Internet explorer and then log off

????????? Log on as User1 and start MS Word 2007

????????? Write something in it

????????? Click Microsoft Office Button, click Prepare, click Restrict Permissions and then click Restricted Access

????????? Click restrict Permissions to this document check box

????????? In the read box type in User2@demo.local

????????? Save the document to \\RMS\testRMS

????????? Log off and then log on as User2

????????? Access the document from \\RMS\testRMS

????????? Verify that you can not save, edit or modify document but you can read it

????????? Log off and log on as User3

????????? Access the document from \\RMS\testRMS

????????? Verify that User3 does not have permissions to access protected document
